Little Women is getting rebooted into a gnarly dystopic TV series
Who doesn't like watching a literary classic moulded into a grim contemporary version of its former self? Pride And Prejudice and Zombies is perhaps the only other example of a project that hews closely to The CW's next TV show -- a gritty reboot of Little Women. In a step away from strictly superhero-related programming, the network is developing a darker version of Louisa May Alcott's seminal tome. Because, why not?
"Little Women is described as a hyper-stylized, gritty adaptation of the 1868 novel by Louisa May Alcott," reads Deadline's synopsis, "in which disparate half-sisters Jo, Meg, Beth, and Amy band together in order to survive the dystopic streets of Philadelphia and unravel a conspiracy that stretches far beyond anything they have ever imagined – all while trying not to kill each other in the process."
Much like the way MTV produced a Scream 'spinoff' that's only related to the film by name, writer Alexis Jolly and producer Michael Weatherly seem to be opting for the same style of reboot.
Adapted seven times since publication, the most recognisable Little Women hit the big screen in 1994 with Susan Sarandon, Winona Ryder and Claire Danes in starring roles. No word on who'll lead this iteration, but based on The CW's casting habits, they're probably rather attractive.
