The film about a seriously dysfunctional family taking a road trip so a young girl can realise her beauty pageant dreams won Best Feature, Best Director for helmers Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Ferris, Best First Screenplay for scribe Michael Arndt and a Best Supporting Actor gong for Alan Arkin.
Half Nelson was the star of the acting awards, with Ryan Gosling getting Male Lead and co-star Shareeka Epps walking away with Female Lead. And Jason Reitman had reason to celebrate, going home with Best Screenplay for Thank You For Smoking.
