Lionsgate starts the search for Robin Hood
One out of the four Robin Hood movies currently in development has begun the early stages of casting. Deadline reports that Lionsgate is narrowing down candidates to play the do-gooder with a bow in Robin Hood: Origins. In case that title didn't give it away, the studio that delivered The Hunger Games and Twilight is taking it back to the beginning for the Nottingham scamp.
In contention for the part are Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service), Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire), Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age of Extinction) and Dylan O’Brien (The Maze Runner). A major deciding factor for the lucky actor is scheduling, while Huston is thought to have 'the edge' over his competitors after a meeting with director Otto Bathurst.
Bathurst directs from a script by Joby Harold, who penned the Guy Ritchie King Arthur movie that's currently shooting. The report describes Origins as a "gritty revisionist take" (it's Hollywood) in which "Robin Hood returns from fighting in The Crusades and finds that Sherwood Forest is rife with corruption and evil."
