New Julius Caesar movie, Emperor, inspired by 300 and Game of Thrones
The swords-and-sandals genre looks set to continue its resurgence, with Deadline reporting that Lionsgate is planning a new biopic based on the life of Julius Caesar, entitled Emperor. The studio will team up with White Horse Pictures in order to bring the project to the big screen, with a Caesar film having apparently been in the pipeline since 2010.
The new film will be based on the series of novels by author Conn Iggulden, which focus on the lives of the young Caesar and his friend, Brutus. SPOILER WARNING. It doesn’t end brilliantly between the two of them…
The report describes the project as “combining the sweep of 300 with the intrigue of Game Of Thrones”, which sounds like a heady combination to us. If it contains even a fraction of the bloodshed of those two titles, it might be one to keep the censors on their toes.
