Set in contemporary London, this golden light-bathed melodrama from UK-based director Sangeeta Datta holds back no sentimental flourishes in its portrayal of the emotionally fraught relationships of an Indian doctor’s family.

After the sudden death of his wife, a devastated Sanjay (Girish Karnad) comes to question his own uncompromising nature, as he’s challenged by the modern approaches to life of his three daughters – particularly his youngest Dia (Soha Ali Khan), who’s pregnant by her Muslim boyfriend.

The maudlin tone isn’t helped by the interwoven songs (a la Bollywood), while Dia’s role in a Shakespeare production sees the film over-reach for parallels with King Lear.
