Leonardo DiCaprio drops out of Steve Jobs biopic
Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and Christian Bale on shortlist of replacements
Danny Boyle’s Steve Jobs biopic has suffered a significant blow, with THR reporting that Leonardo DiCaprio has decided against taking the leading role.
It had been expected that DiCaprio would agree to reunite with Boyle for the first time since The Beach , only for the star to decide upon a period away from acting after completing work on upcoming project, The Revenant .
It is now thought that Sony will turn to one of Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Christian Bale or Bradley Cooper as a replacement, with the studio set on landing an A-list name for the part of Jobs.
Scripted by Aaron Sorkin, the film will be broken down into three real-time scenes, each set before the launch of a major Apple product, from the Mac to the iPod.
David Fincher had initially been slated to direct the film, with Bale having been his personal choice to take the role. Expect Boyle to push for a replacement to be named sooner rather than later, with Bale potentially back in the frame over the coming weeks…
