LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean coming May 2011

LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game is scheduled to plunder all conceivable systems next May in conjunction with the new film, Pirates of Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. It will recount the first three films of the franchise in glorious brick-o-vision and star more than 70 playable characters, which can be used to explore over 20 environments plucked straight from the swashbuckling trilogy. In fine LEGO tradition, gamers will also be able to play with a friend in co-op or free play modes.

“Pirates of the Caribbean is a globally successful franchise based in action, adventure and humor perfectly suited for a LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game adaptation,” said Graham Hopper, executive vice president and general manager of Disney Interactive Studios. “Combining the excitement of playing as Jack Sparrow and other recognizable characters from the franchise will make the game fun for players of all ages throughout the world.”

Pirates of the Caribbean is the fifth licensed property to get the LEGO treatment and will be preceded by LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars next February.

No word yet if a slightly tipsy, pint-sized Keith Richards will be one of the unlockable characters, but if he is, we call dibs.
