Lego movie on the way
Warner greenlights building block bonanza
With Peter Berg busily making a movie out of board-game favourite Battleship , Warner Bros have decided to get on board the toys-to-movies gravy train by greenlighting a project based around clicky-brick brand Lego.
Written by Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs team Phil Lord and Chris Miller, Lego (catchy title, no?) will be a live action / animation mash-up, co-directed by Lord, Miller and Robot Chicken ’s Chris McKay.
So far so good, but what is it actually going to be about? Well, plot details are being kept firmly under wraps at this stage, but what we do know is that the film will take the form of an action-adventure set within the Lego world.
The film’s production team are clearly striving for authenticity, as witnessed by their frequent trip to Lego’s Denmark HQ. Presumably they’re there to find out how a Lego man would really react in a given situation…
Casting for the live-action roles is set to begin in January, with the project lined up for a 2014 release date. In the meantime, Lord and Miller will be busy making final tweaks to live-action debut 21 Jump Street , which arrives here on 16 March 2012.
