Early in December we ran a story about Minecraft developer Mojang asking fans to sign a petition on the Lego Cuusoo website, which helps Lego find new projects to Lego-ize. It's a fairly straightforward system: anything that gets 10,000 supporters would be subject to official approval, and anything approved would be made into an official Lego product.
And, well, that's what happened. So much for being indie, eh, Notch?
The post went live today on the Cuuso website, which broke the news: "We're happy to announce that the Minecraft project on LEGO CUUSOO has passed the LEGO review and we are now developing a concept that celebrates the best aspects of building with the LEGO system and in Minecraft," the posting said, though it warned eager fans that this wasn't something that would be accomplished overnight. "We can’t wait to show it to you—but it isn't ready just yet. These things take time, so we appreciate your patience."
How much time can it really take to paint a grass texture onto different-sized Lego blocks? Like, can't they just make a sticker with angry eyes for the Creeper?
We kid, of course - this is great news, and we can't wait to see how Minecraft's blocky world looks when turned into actual blocks in the real-world.
