LeetUP geek-culture events to debut in LA this March
“Festival of nerdly delights” to feature Felicia Day, Kevins Smith and Pereira
A new event series geared toward celebrating and exploring nerd culture is set to debut in Los Angeles this March. LeetUP was founded by G4TV's Kevin Pereira and Charles Hirschhorn in collaboration with art collective iam8bit, and aims, in the words of Pereira, to “celebrate all that is nerd — our love for the internet, podcasting, tech, music, videogames — and remix them in a way that makes us social again.”
The first leetUP event will be held at LA's Club Nokia on Thursday, March 1, with doors opening at 7pm. Hosted by Pereira, the event will feature appearances by Felicia Day, Kevin Smith, Nerdist's Chris Hardwick, Super High Me's Doug Benson and others. “Experiential zones” will allow visiting poindexters to get hands-on with new tech, gaming gear and lifestyle products.
Pereira has big plans for leetUP, saying the debut event will provide “an intimate and experimental playground for the discerning nerd.” With the brand likened to a traveling carnival, Pereira's aim is for the event to “constantly evolve at each stop.” Tickets are available from Ticketmaster, the Staples Center box-office or iam8bit's Sunset Boulevard store, priced from $11.50 to $46.50.
