Lasse Hallstrom off to New Amsterdam
He’s helming the pilot for a high-concept new TV cop drama
We’ve previously reported about New Amsterdam, which Fox TV in the US is hoping will be the next big exciting police show.
The plot hook features a detective who investigates murders in New York. It sounds like every other cop show you’ve heard of, except for the twist that he’s immortal – and has been around since the city was called by its original title, New Amsterdam.
Hallstrom will serve as executive producer – though we doubt the busy filmmaker will have much hand in running the show day to day. Likely he’ll direct the pilot and then look over scripts if and when the series gets running, in much the same way that Bryan Singer works with the House team.
There’s no cast attached to the show yet, and it remains to be seen whether it’ll be successful, but at least it has a decent director attached to launch it.
