Legendary has announced some changes regarding its forthcoming King Kong prequel, with the film receiving a brand new title and release date.
Previously titled Skull Island, the film will now be known as Kong: Skull Island, presumably to clarify the link between the new adventure and the monkey business that has gone before.
The film’s release date has also been pushed back by almost six months. Having originally been pencilled in for 4 November 2016, it will now arrive in cinemas on 10 March 2017.
Starring Tom Hiddleston, the new film will be set against the backdrop of Kong’s weird and wonderful home, and “presents a bold new take on the mythos of [the] iconic beast”.
Kong: Skull Island will be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts from a script by John Gatins and Max Borenstein, with the latter having worked on the screenplay for the studio’s recent Godzilla update.
