Kid Icarus: Uprising to be first Nintendo game to use 3DSs Circle Pad Pro

The controversial Circle Pad Pro is already out in Japan, and will be shipping in the UK at the end of this month and in the US February 7, both alongside the first internationally released title to use the attachment, Resident Evil: Revelations. So far all the games that we knew were compatible with the second thumb pad were third party: RE: Revelations, Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D, Kingdom Hearts 3D, Monster Hunter 3G. Now comes word that at least one Nintendo game will use the attachment, and the Kid Icarus reboot will be using it for a good reason.

As explained to Official Nintendo Magazine, Smash Bros mastermind and Kid Icarus: Uprising’s director Masahiro Sakurai explained why his upcoming game would use the add-on. Unlike other titles, it won’t be for camera control, instead helping left-handed players. As we noticed during previous demos of the game, Uprising controls using the left Circle Pad, L trigger and touch screen felt strange enough to a right handed person, but could be real difficult for lefties. The new set-up should allow players to control movement with the right pad and move the shooting reticle with the touch screen, which just might feel the same as the game does for righties.

So there’s at least one of the big complaints with the upcoming game dealt with. The game hits US shelves March 23.
