Kick-Ass 2 finds its Mother Russia
And Jeff Wadlow releases a first on-set image
Kick-Ass 2 has filled another gap in its casting jigsaw, by adding Russian bodybuilder Olga Kurkulina as the formidable Mother Russia.
Kurkulina will play Red Mist's towering bodyguard, and from the looks of the first images of her on set, she certainly has the physique for the role. Christopher Mintz-Plasse looks suitably terrified, anyway…
The film recently added Jim Carrey to its ensemble in the role of Colonel Stars, while Donald Faison and John Leguizamo have also signed on to join returning cast members Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Chloë Grace Moretz.
Meanwhile, Taylor-Johnson has taken the time to comment on the journey of his on-screen nemesis Red Mist, and how the script has ducked away from some of his more deviant urges.
"It's pretty surprising the journey he goes on and it's fantastic, a really strong role for him," says Taylor-Johnson. "In the comic books they tackle quite a few disturbing things that I don't think we're going to put in, for the better, but I think it's got more of a narrative in the script."
Directed by Jeff Wadlow, with Matthew Vaughn returning in a production capacity, Kick-Ass 2 opens in the UK on 19 July 2013.
