Kevin Costner forms The Explorers Club
A ’net series and possible movie
Going dark and dangerous for adults with serial killer drama Mr Brooks didn’t exactly lead Kevin Costner to box office glory. So he’s going cute, cuddly and kiddie for his next venture.
He’s decided to produce, voice and stump up the dosh to make The Explorers Club, an animated series that will appear on the Inter-Tubes this Christmas in 12 four-minute chunks. If it’s successful, Costner plans to turn it into a movie.
Chris Baird, Jon Baird and Keith Quinn will be handling the actual writing and directing duties (since they created the concept) and the animation will benefit from the talents of famed ‘toon duo the Chiodo brothers.
As for the story, that will send a group of Victorian-era adventurers on a journey to the wildest corners of the world.
"Each episode is clever and visual, it works as a series, and it has massive potential for the big screen," Costner said. "Distribution channels have grown, and as a filmmaker, I was excited by the opportunities to draw an audience into a story in a new way."
Aw, it’s nice when old folks try to use the magical internets, isn’t it?
