Karl Urban moots possibility of Dredd prequel
Says that’s likeliest form of follow-up
Karl Urban has been discussing the possibility of a follow-up to Dredd , and has revealed that any such film would most likely be a prequel.
The first film may have been a commercial flop, but there are a hardcore of fans who genuinely revere it, and sure enough, Urban was asked about a possible reprise during an appearance at the Chicago Comic-Con.
“Why yes, there is a definite possibility,” said Urban, “but it is more likely that we will do the origin story with Dredd trekking through the Cursed Earth to find the first Chief Judge Fargo.”
It’s encouraging that Urban is still keen, although with the first film only taking a $35 million worldwide gross, on the back of a $50 million budget, it would be a surprise to see a second film greenlit.
Still, if the fans continue to push, and Urban remains willing to discuss the possibility, there’s always a chance. We’ll be keeping our fingers firmly crossed…
