Jurassic World new dinosaur Indominus Rex revealed

The first Jurassic World trailer sparked a furor of excitement over its mysterious new dinosaur, Indominus Rex. Well, and the sight of Chris Pratt in pursuit of the new-fangled beastie with a crew of raptors by his side.

Now thanks to the official Jurassic World website, we’ve got a full-blown look at the latest creation cooked up by those meddlesome scientists. The viral snap showcases the park’s impressive arena designed specifically for the creature, but we’ve saved the best ’til last.

Facing the camera full on, the I. Rex’s menacing snarl dominates the image behind a cloud of smoke. The T-rex caused a few ripples in a glass of water - this guy looks like he could muster a tsunami in a small pond!

Masrani Global - who bought out John Hammond's original startup InGen - have certainly stepped up their game with this ambitious genetic hybrid blend. Here’s their official description of the animal:

"We set out to make Indominus the most fearsome dinosaur ever to be displayed at Jurassic World. The genetic engineers at our Hammond Creation Lab have more than delivered.

At first glance, Indominus most closely resembles a T. Rex. But its distinctive head ornamentation and ultra-tough bony osteoderms can be traced from Theropods known as Abeliosaurs. Indominus’ horns have been placed above the eye orbit through genetic material hybridized from Carnotaurus, Majungasaurus, Rugops and Giganotosaurus. Fearsome indeed.

Indominus’ roar is estimated to reach 140-160db—the same as a 747 taking off and landing. And it can reach speeds of 30 mph…while confined to its enclosure. Come experience Indominus Rex for yourself beginning this summer. If you dare."

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Jurassic World stalks into theaters on June 12.
