Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Paul Rudd up for Ant-Man
Pair are frontrunners for title role
Edgar Wright’s long-gestating Ant-Man adaptation may be about to land its title performer, with Variety reporting that Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Paul Rudd are the leading contenders.
The report claims that the two stars are set to meet with Marvel execs and Wright himself one last time, before a final decision is made either way.
Wright would appear to be looking for an everyman actor for the role, somebody who wouldn’t necessarily be thought of in a heroic context, and would fit the profile as Ant-Man’s alter-ego, scientist Hank Pym.
With that brief in mind, it'd be nice to see Rudd get a shot at a blockbuster, particularly given JGL’s previous dalliance with the cape and cowl… That said, we’d have few complaints if the younger man nabbed the role. Both are extremely watchable, consistently likeable performers, and either would be capable of handling any of the role's more comedic requirements.
Having seemingly been in the pipeline for ever, Ant-Man will finally hit US screens on 31 July 2015, before opening in the UK on 14 August 2015.
