“I wouldn't make it if it wouldn't be awesome.”
So says Jonah Hill of his upcoming big screen version of classic TV series 21 Jump Street .
Talking with Coming Soon , the actor revealed that the film – in which he stars and executive produces – should begin shooting sometime this year.
In December, Phil Lord and Chris Miller were confirmed as the flick’s directors, having enjoyed success with the not-particularly-cop-oriented Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs .
“They are incredible. Their take on the movie is incredible,” says Hill.
Set in high school, the film follows young rookie cops who re-enter the classroom in order to keep tabs on youth crime.
The original series starred Johnny Depp, but Hill says he won’t be playing the bigwig’s original character.
He said: “[Audiences are] not expecting what it's going to be. It's not a parody of the show. I'm not playing Johnny Depp's character… It's a group of people that go back to high school to deal with a drug problem. To deal with crime in high school.
“It's a funny movie with a lot of great action and a real story. I've been saying that it's like a John Hughes movie with Bad Boys style action.”
