Jolie is all heart
Winterbottom nabs Ange for gripping biopic of brave journalist
You’ve got to love a director who can change it up – wrapping a surreal Brit comedy one day, then sitting at the helm for a political pot-boiler the next.
Said genre-hopper is Brit lenser Michael Winterbottom and he’s at it once again after signing on to direct A Mighty Heart – the adaptation of the memoirs of journalist Marianne Pearl.
The tale follows a pregnant Pearl as she hunts for her kidnapped husband on the treacherous streets of Pakistan. Wall Street Journal writer Daniel Pearl was eventually murdered by suspected terrorists linked to al Qaeda.
Angelina Jolie has just inked-on to play the lead and producers Paramount Vintage want cameras rolling sometime in the next five weeks. Winterbottom will shoot from a script he worked on with Me Without You scribbler Laurence Coriat.
Jolie will begin researching the role straight after she’s finished voicing Tigress in Dreamworks Animation’s chop-socky gag-fest, Kung Fu Panda.
