John Singleton writing, producing and directing Tupac biopic
Long-planned project finally up and running
A biopic of the late rapper and sometime actor Tupac Shakur has been in the Hollywood pipeline for some time now, with Antoine Fuqua first attached to the project way back in 2010.
Fuqua eventually dropped out of the running in 2012, with John Singleton touted as the director most likely to replace him. After that, it all went a bit quiet.
However, Variety is now reporting that Singleton is fully attached to the project, with the Boyz N The Hood helmer set to write, produce and direct the untitled film.
Singleton seems a good fit for the position having actually worked with Shakur personally, directing him in Poetic Justice back in 1993.
The new film will chart the meteoric rise of the popular rapper, before eventually dealing with his fatal shooting following a boxing match in Las Vegas in 1996.
No word as yet as to who might fill the title role, with Singleton currently working on a script ahead of a proposed production start date of June 2014.
