Horror legend John Carpenter has signed on to direct comic book adaptation Darkchylde .
Undeterred after The Ward , his first feature directing gig in almost a decade, was panned by critics, the Halloween man has taken the reins on the hit ‘90s series written by Randy Queen.
The devilish plot follows sweet teen Ariel Chydle, who suffers from a curse that means she transforms into the nightmarish creatures that feature in her dreams.
“Randy Queen’s hijacked angel, Ariel Chylde, is the best young female character since Laurie Strode in Halloween ,” reckons Carpenter. “Bringing Ariel and her dark mysteries to life should be quite an adventure for us all.”

Though this girl looks every bit like Gossip Girl 's tearaway Taylor Momsen, no actress has been cast in the lead role as of yet. We wonder if Carpenter's still got Amber Heard's digits.
The director's comparison of Ariel to Laurie bodes well, though Carpenter has arguably failed to craft a decent scare flick since 1995's nuts In The Mouth Of Madness . Here's hoping for a belated return to form.
