Joe Cornish tipped to direct Star Trek 3
Filming planned for summer 2014
With J.J. Abrams’ busy schedule now dominated by Star Wars: Episode VII , Paramount is stepping up its chase for a new Star Trek director, with Joe Cornish the latest name to be linked to the position.
Deadline reports that the studio is extremely keen on Cornish to step into Abrams’ shoes, a gig that would represent a significant leap forward in the Attack The Block director’s career.
Jon M. Chu and Rupert Wyatt had both previously been mentioned in relation to the film, but happily for Cornish, neither of those options have materialised.
Abrams will still remain attached to the franchise in the role of producer, with filming tentatively slated to begin on the project in summer 2014.
That would suggest an early 2016 release date (given the glut of blockbusters already scheduled for 2015) for Kirk and co.’s next adventure, and we can’t think of a better man to have at the helm…
