Jim Sheridan rounds up Brothers
A war drama remake
Jim Sheridan really needs some career elastoplast. He’s the man who guided Daniel Day-Lewis to an Oscar for My Left Foot, and was behind the camera for the effective, affecting In America. But his last job was the abysmal 50 Cent rap-iography Get Rich Or Die Tryin’, which made us wonder if they’d hired some other Jim Sheridan and then trotted out the original for interviews to give the film such much needed credibility.
Hopefully his next possible job will help him out of that embarrassing rut, as he’s in talks to direct a remake of Susanne Biers’ War Brothers.
The original boasts Connie Nielsen, Ulrich Thomsen and Nikolaj Lie Kaas in the tale of two brothers (well, duh) who must deal with their family issues when one of them is sent to the war in Afghanistan.
If he signs, Sheridan’s version will boast a script by David Benioff, and given that he’s seriously interested, we expect some quality stars will rush to work with Sheridan, if only to prove that Get Rich was a brief detour on the road of great movies.
