Why you can trust 12DOVE
Keeping to the school of tile-sliding, Jewel Quest: Expeditions is a budget-priced DS version of freebie PC puzzler Jewel Quest II. The aim is simple: move ‘jewels’ around a grid to match lines of three or more to turn the background gold. Turn the whole grid gold to move to the next level – and there are 180 of them.
Despite its similarity to other games, Jewel Quest is still incredibly addictive, and even though you can get it for free on your computer, the DS version boasts portability and stability. The ace up its sleeve, however, is the story – a hokey Indiana Jones-alike tale of lost love and ancient mysteries in Africa. It’s utterly irrelevant but the static cutscenes are brilliant in their overwrought silliness. Was that intentional? Who cares?
