Jeremy Renner to Escape From New York?
Could be the new Snake Plissken
Hurt Locker star Jeremy Renner is the latest name to be attached to the roundabout that is the Escape From New York remake.
Bloody Disgusting are reporting that Renner is in 'close talks' about taking the lead in the remake, but insist that it's in extremely early stages right now, and isn't close to official just yet.
Breck Eisner, the man behind above-average remake The Crazies (and less promisingly, Sahara ), is supposedly still attached to direct the project, which has so far seen Len Wiseman, Brett Ratner and Jonathan Mostow come and go.
There's no doubt that Renner as Snake Plissken would be an extremely enticing prospect, even if we are still somewhat dubious about the idea of a remake of John Carpenter's classic (which has already had its reputation sullied somewhat by Escape From L.A. )
Renner's probably one of only a handful of contemporary actors who could step into shoes made famous by Kurt Russell at his charismatic best, but he might just be too busy to take this on. He's currently shooting Mission: Impossible 4 (or Ghost Protocol , if we must), before heading off to play Hawkeye in Marvel's The Avengers .
