Javier Bardem offered gunslinger role in Dark Tower
Could play Roland Deschain
Ah, the wonders of an Oscar nomination. Hot on the heels of Javier Bardem’s Best Actor nod at this year’s Oscars, Universal have just offered the actor the lead role in their grandiose adaptation of The Dark Tower .
Previously, Bardem was reportedly favourite alongside Viggo Mortensen and Christian Bale. Could that nom for Biutiful have been the clincher? It certainly can’t have hurt.
With director Ron Howard at the helm, The Dark Tower is an ambitious adaptation of Stephen King’s epic book saga, which will comprise of three films and a two-season TV series to plug up the gaps between cinema releases.
Bardem will play (if he accepts his mission) Roland Deschain, a gunslinger who’s on a quest to find the Dark Tower, which is said to be the universe’s nexus.
"I think there's something about Green Mile or a Shawshank Redemption , the complexity and the ballast of them,” Howard has said.
“Those are two [ King adaptations ] where you do get the horror and suspense that's there on the page."
