Jason Lee finds a Krater
Starring in and producing a rock comedy
Playing a sweaty rock god in Cameron Crowe’s Almost Famous must’ve agreed with Jason Lee. Because he’s just put together a new comedy project at Warner Bros that will let him get back on stage.
Krater will follow the misadventures of the titular rock band, who suddenly find themselves dealing with unexpected success in the late ‘70s after employing a new lead singer with serious vocal talent and – unbeknownst to his band mates – a hidden dream of appearing on Broadway. Lee’s picked the plum role of Krater’s leader for himself, and will film the role in May, when he’s on holiday from his regular day job – starring in TV sitcom My Name Is Earl.
Lee and pal Scott M Martin (who also nabbed a producer credit on Almost Famous) have hired writer JD Ryznar to bash out the script. Now all they need is a director.
