James Cameron posts an update on the Avatar sequels
Says all three are in pre-production
James Cameron took part in an online Q&A over the weekend, in which he answered questions across a number of topics, including an update on the forthcoming Avatar sequels.
"The second, third and fourth films all go into production simultaneously," says Cameron. "They’re essentially all in pre-production now, because we are designing creatures, settings, and characters that span all three films."
"We should be finished with all three scripts within the next, I would say, six weeks," continued Cameron, before talking about what has inspired him to make further sequels.
"For me, the success was a factor because I was encouraged by the fact that an environmental film, or a film about nature, could be successful," says Cameron. "It's certainly not about money."
"Every director wants their film to communicate. The biggest factor, however, is the drive to continue developing the world– more characters, more creatures with unfettered creativity."
Co-starring Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana, Avatar 2 is expected to open in the UK in December 2016.
