Sherlock Holmes’ Anthony Peckham to pen
Sherlock Holmes screenwriter Anthony Peckham has been hired to help Paramount bring a younger, fresher Jack Ryan to the big screen.
The creation of novel author Tom Clancy, Jack Ryan is the action hero who has dashed through previous film adaptations of Clancy’s work, most notably The Hunt For Red October, Patriot Games and Clear And Present Danger .
Previously, he was played by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck (in The Sum Of All Fears ). The new Ryan thriller is said to be a delve into Ryan’s earlier career, and will be an entirely original story that is not based on a Clancy novel.
Chris Pine, who previously helped reboot the Star Trek movie series as a young Captain Kirk, has been cast as the younger Ryan, who will fight terrorists in Russia.
Jack Bender, best known for his work on stellar TV series Lost, Alias and The Sopranos, is currently attached to direct, with filming pegged to begin in the coming months.
