Not only has Ubisoft stabbed a 2016 release date in the neck with official confirmation of no Assassin's Creed game this year but it's looking more like the franchise won't be annualised after that. At a publisher investor day attended by GamesIndustry.biz, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said that while the series will return next year, the plan isn't to go back to the previous release schedule."The goal is not to automatically come back to an annual cycle, but to come back on a regular basis," he said. "We can't say every year."
This is a great thing for the series as a whole. Not only will this mean a longer development cycle for each game - we know that there's always multiple Creeds on the go at once - but we won't be exhausted by consistently new additions. While Assassin's Creed Syndicate was brilliant, it comes after the far less interesting AC 3 and badly received Unity (which I still have a soft spot for). Assassin's Creed is due for a break and that's exactly what this could deliver. Hood news.
