Probably not, but Universal might make it anyway
We’re always moaning about Hollywood remaking good films and buggering them up (pause to shudder at the memory of The Dude The Earth Stood Still ) so surely we shouldn’t be too worried that Universal is reportedly inching nearer to remaking the Jean-Claude Van Damme flick Timecop (1994)? After all, they couldn’t do anything but improve on the original, surely?
According to What’s Playing , “The studio have been developing the pic for four years now. Uni are envisioning a big-budget science-fiction blockbuster with a major star (despite asking for a look-in, Van Damme won’t be invited back). We can expect it to be on the release calendar sometime over the next twelve to eighteen months.”
While we’ll believe it when we see, let’s hope, for a start, that any script that’s doing the round has jettisoned the stupidest time travel device in the history of time travel. You remember, the one where the capsule has to reach a certain speed before it can time travel? But unlike in Back To The Future , where you just drive the car along nice open roads until it reaches that speed, this capsule travels along some rails that end in a BRICK WALL. So if you don’t reach the right speed… SPLAT. We assume heath and safety never got wind of it.
