Both God War Ragnarok and Valhalla expansion are on PS4 and PS5 alike, a surprising accommodation given that the PlayStation 4 is now pretty firmly in the "last-gen", and Ragnarok likes pushing hardware to its limits. Not only that, but there's more platforms and consoles that Ragnarok seems set to move to - and we've got all the details marked out below. If you want to know how to play God of War Ragnarok on PS4, PS5 and PC, we'll explain what's going on below.

God of War Ragnarok is playable on PS4 consoles as well as PS5. The same goes for the Valhalla DLC. And, if you buy the PS4 version of God of War Ragnarok and later upgrade to a PS5, you'll be able to get the digital PS5 version at a discounted price (sadly, it's not a free upgrade). It's important to note that if you own a PS4 disc copy of God of War Ragnarok, you can only upgrade if you also have a PS5 with a disc drive as well, as the upgrade process requires you to insert the PS4 disc into your PS5.

God of War Ragnarok PS4 and PS5 differences

There are some technical differences between the PS4 and PS5 version of God of War Ragnarok, but no difference in terms of gameplay, story, and content. We have more information on all the different God of War Ragnarok graphics modes available. Obviously the PS5 has far more options of a higher frame rate and resolution, and load times are almost seamless thanks to the internal SSD. The PS4 on the other hand has to make a few performance and graphical compromises compared to the PS5.

However, one big difference is the price. The PS4 version of God of War Ragnarok still sets you back £/$59.99 while the PS5 version costs £/$69.99. There's no sign of that changing any time soon although the prices will come down eventually at some point.

Yes, God of War Ragnarok PC release's date is 19 September 2024, whereupon it'll be available to play for all those who have Steam and a robust computer setup to work from. Ragnarok marks an ongoing trend for Sony, whereupon many of their first party PS5 exclusives (especially the single player ones) are eventually ported to PC some years after their release on console.
