[Edit: In a show of class that demonstrates exactly why he's one of the most respected people in the games industry, Ted Price has responded to and corrected the quotes upon which this story was based. And because he's Ted Price, he also managed to turn it into a call to action for gamers who haven't yet added their voices in protest to California's pending law restricting the sale of violent games to minors. You really need toreadTed's blog postright now.]
Let's do a little word association. If I say "PS3 killer app" what's the first thing that comes to mind? Insomniac would like to believe it's ether Resistance or Ratchet & Clank.
The studio behind two of the most successful PS3 franchises has a lot to be confident about, but CEO Ted Price thinks it deserves a higher accolade than just "successful."

Price believes his team has achieved maximum utilization of the PS3 hardware and, in his own words, "they [members of the Insomniac team] focus heavily on using the PS3′s SPUs more effectively (in my opinion) than anyone else in the business." That's from a recent interview in EGM magazine.
He may actually be onto something because Insomniac does something most companies don't. It focuses on a consistently well executed product every single time. What a novel idea. Unlike most publishers that focus on a couple heavy hitters every year and then slap their name on a bunch of other stuff for maximum revenue, Insomniac has only released six PS3 games.

And all of them are either from the Ratchet & Clank or Resistance series. So when gamers buy a game from either series, they know the team behind it has been 100% focused on that game alone. Not just the artists or programmers, but the people at the top too - the producers, the product managers, and the executives.
By capturing both the mature gamer audience with Resistance, and the casual or "E for Everyone" audience with Ratchet & Clank, Insomniac has successfully managed to make a stake in large market segments of the gaming community.
While normally we'd like to rip into a statement like the one Price made, it may not actually be baseless lofty PR speak. And just saying that is kind of making our minds explode.
