It was always kind of weird that, although the alien invasion in the first Independence Day was a global event, the film focused almost solely on how it impacted the United States and our American heroes. That doesn't look to be the case in Independence Day: Resurgence, as a new clip shows Jeff Goldblum in the house of what appears to be an African General, apparently there to investigate a strange marking:
It's good to see there will be some attention given to other parts of the world this time around, which will hopefully make the battle feel all the more imposing and desperate. I'm even a fan of the cheesy dialogue; "Every time I interviewed one of my patients and showed them this, they all expressed the same emotion."
Nobody talks like that! That line only exists so that the next word, "fear," can be delivered with dramatic, booming emphasis. It's ham-fisted, melodramatic, and I love it.
Directed by Roland Emmerich and starring Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner, Liam Hemsworth, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, and Sela Ward, Independence Day: Resurgence opens in UK cinemas on June 23, 2016 before hitting US theaters a day later.
