Hugh Jackman to fight Greek myths in The Odyssey
Francis Lawrence will soon be tackling The Odyssey for Lionsgate. and according to The Wrap, he may just have found his Odysseus. The man set to embark on the epic journey of Ancient Greek legend? None other than Hugh Jackman.
According to the report, the star has entered early talks with the studio over the role, with both parties hopeful that a deal can be struck. For those unfamiliar with the source material, the story tells of Odysseus’s attempts to return home to Ithaca after the Trojan war, only for his ship to be badly blown off course, throwing him into a host of perilous adventures.
Cue encounters with the likes of the fearsome Cyclops, Polyphemus, and the seabound foes Scylla and Charybdis, as Odysseus attempts to slog his way home to his wife Penelope. It seems unlikely that Lionsgate would be able to cram the whole tale into a single film, so don’t be surprised to see this one split into two or even three films when the time comes.
The film will see Lawrence re-team with his Hunger Games screenwriter Peter Craig, while Nina Jacobson is on board to produce. No release date has been confirmed at this stage.
