Hugh Jackman joins 3D Cleopatra musical
Catherine Zeta-Jones is also in Steven Soderbergh’s latest
Steven Soderbergh has picked his next project, and it’s a doozy: a 3D musical of the Cleopatra story that will star Catherine Zeta-Jones and Hugh Jackman.
Yes, never one to be pinned down to one particular genre, Soderbergh is veering off on yet another direction with the musical Cleo, featuring tunes penned by indie rockers Guided By Voices and a script from former Voices bass player James Greer, reports Variety.
Hugh Jackman and Catherine Zeta-Jones, no strangers to hoofing it given his turns on Broadway and her Oscar-scooping Chicago performance, will play the doomed lovers.
Egyptian Queen
For anyone who fell asleep in history class or who hasn’t seen the either the BBC show Rome or the Elizabeth Taylor-starring epic, Cleopatra follows the Egyptian queen and her soul mate, Roman officer Marc Anthony.
The cost of the movie will be $30 million and it’ll be shot in glorious 3D. There’s no studio on board yet, but who wouldn’t want to be involved?
Okay, so maybe they won’t be that excited – musicals tend to be tough sells – but this is intriguing enough to nab anyone’s interest, surely?
