Here's what happens in the Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer – including Luke’s first words to Rey

In a conference room far, far away, some lucky shareholders have had the chance to be the very first people to feast their eyes on Star Wars: The Last Jedi footage. If you’re not rich enough to have shares in the House of Mouse (you and me both) then, thankfully that hasn’t stopped people reporting exactly what went down in the footage – including what are probably Luke’s first words…

The trailer kicks off with what was thought to be a joke scene. Disney probably thought better of toying with everyone’s emotions because they soon revealed the real thing.

Daniel Miller of the L.A Times went on to share details about the exclusive event with a galaxy-full of cool moments. Highlights include “epic, exotic” locations, a shot of the late Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa and, yup, Luke’s first words to Rey.

“Who are you?” Luke says to Rey upon seeing her. Not the greatest vote of confidence for Daisy Ridley’s character but, hey, there’s a long way to go. And it's good to know even Luke Skywalker has awkward first conversations.

There’s also a shot of Rey handling a lightsaber in what is sure to be included this movie’s version of a Yoda training montage.

There’s also a suitably Star Wars battle, with an X-Wing coming under fire inside a giant ship. Also: shots of mountains, oceans, forests and deserts. Here’s hoping they’ve taken inspiration from Star Wars: Rogue One’s beautiful locales.

The rest of the gang are all here: Chewie, Leia and Finn make appearances. No sign of Poe or BB-8 though (yet). Sad face. It’s also bittersweet seeing Leia back on-screen after Carrie Fisher’s passing last year.

What do you make of Luke’s reported first words to Rey? Were you hoping for something a bit more epic? Let us know in the comments!

Directed by Rian Johnson and starring Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Laura Dern, Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Gwendoline Christie, and Benicio del Toro, Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens in cinemas on December 15, 2017.
