Harvey Weinstein planning anti-gun movie with Meryl Streep
“Will make the NRA wish they weren’t alive”
In the wake of another school shooting in the States earlier this week, Harvey Weinstein has revealed he is planning an anti-gun film with Meryl Streep.
The film will not be a documentary, but a big studio picture with a strong anti-gun message, with Weinstein planning for audiences to leave the theatre thinking, “gun stocks… I don’t want to be involved in that stuff.”
“I’m going to make a movie with Meryl Streep, and we’re going to take [ gun rights ] head-on,” said Weinstein, a man notorious for speaking his mind, on The Howard Stern Show .
“[ The NRA is ] going to wish they weren’t alive after I’m done with them,” he continued, before comparing his film to Jimmy Stewart classic Mr. Smith Goes To Washington .
No details have emerged as yet in terms of scheduling, but just the prospect of Weinstein and Streep teaming up for an issue-lead movie is a formidable one. Watch this space…
