Lock, Stock And Two Sizzling Laser Cannons – Guy (Snatch) Ritchie is set to follow up his desecration of Sherlock Holmes with a big screen adaptation of DC Comics anti-hero Lobo.
Lobo is a blue, seven-foot, interstellar bounty hunter first introduced in Omega Men in 1963, but who only really achieved popular notoriety in the '90s when DC reinvented him as hard-bitten, motorbike riding, designer-violence send-up of Wolverine (you can see the atraction for Ritchie).
The new movie has a script by Don (4: Rise Of The Silver Surfer) Payne, while Joel Silver, Akiva Goldsman and Andrew Rona will produce for Warner Brothers. Production is scheduled to begin early next year. In the film, Lobo lands on Earth in search of four fugitives who are bent on wreaking havoc. Lobo teams with a small-town teenaged girl to stop the creatures. No news on whether his trusty bulldog Dawg will be co-starring.
Although Ritchie's reputation and the comic strip's dark humour might suggest otherwise, Warner's is aiming for a PG-13 rating in the US. Isn't that a bit like getting Rob Zombie to direct a PG-friendly version of the Karma Sutra?
