The Doctor may not use them, but the show was never short of them
In one of the scores of fabulous features in the new SFX Doctor Who bookazine , Will Salmon looks at the good, the bad and the downright weird guns that have appeared in the show. To whet your appetite, here are two that didn’t make it and one that did but had to be cut down to size.

Who doesn’t love the Special Weapons Dalek? While the Imperial and Renegade Daleks were wobbling about ineffectually, this dirty, oil-slicked beast trundled onscreen and blasted the opposition to atoms. This Dalek doesn’t even have a plunger. He's that badass.
Story: “The Stolen Earth”
Weapon: Rose’s cannon
Jeez, Tyler, over-compensating much? This ridiculously over-sized cannon dwarfs Rose in “The Stolen Earth”. Still, at least it looks credible, compared to some guns in Who – even if it does look like it's been lifted straight out of Halo .
Story: “The Time Warrior”, and more
Weapon: Sontaran gun stick
There are a lot of stick weapons in classic Who , probably because they were cheap and easy to make. The Sontaran gun, first modelled by Lynx, can stun and kill, but mainly it just looks like an in-car cigarette lighter. The Sontys traded them up for more standard blasters in recent stories.
