Guillermo del Toro working on script for Pacific Rim 2
Current draft sees Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi's characters return
Guillermo del Toro has confirmed that he is currently working on a script for Pacific Rim 2 , alongside screenwriter Zak Penn.
According to the director, the new script is for a fully-fledged sequel, rather than the prequel that had been rumoured, and will see Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi's characters return for a second outing.
"I’m working very, very hard with Zak Penn," says del Toro. "We’ve been working for a few months now in secret. We found a way to twist it around."
"Travis Beacham [ co-writer of the first film ] was involved in the storyline and now I’m writing with Zak because Travis has become a TV mogul."
"Some people were wondering if we were going to do the prequel," he continues. "I was never interested in doing that first wave of invasion."
"I’m going for very new, very crazy ideas on the second one, which are very different from the first one - but you will get really great spectacle."
Sounds promising. Lionsgate has yet to confirm an official release date, but it does at least sound as thought the wheels are in motion on this one…
