Guillermo del Toro has spoken out about what went wrong with his abandoned passion pic At The Mountains Of Madness.
The director, who heard from Universal this week that they wouldn’t be giving his new film the greenlight, spoke with Deadline about his time working on the film.
He reveals that the studio were “blown away” by the visual presentation pitch that he painstakingly created, and “openly admitted to loving the screenplay”.
But despite hitting the budget target, they still pulled the plug. Says del Toro:
“The week before the decision, I was scouting in the border of Canada and Alaska. We were a week away from opening offices in Toronto.
“We were crewed up, and frankly, I am as puzzled as most people are. One of the biggest, biggest points for me with this movie was the scope and the R, going hand in hand.”
