Why you can trust 12DOVE
Heavy on nostalgia, light on content is probably the quickest way to sum up GTI Club+ but you’ll doubtless want a few more facts than that. You should, seeing as the PS3 download game has been created by Sumo Digital, the British company behind the excellent home console versions of OutRun 2. Sumo stick to what we know they can do here and bring us a faster, smoother, hi-def remake of another arcade racer.
The checkpoint racer is simple, but deviously clever too. Cars that stick to the roads, cardboard cutout crowds and invisible walls are a deliberate nod to its retro heritage, but despite their initial peculiarity it’s soon obvious GTI Club is one intense, addictive and brilliantly balanced racer. A mix of online modes means there’s no shortage of super sped-up thrills if you’ve got eight people playing, but on your own – once you’ve beaten three difficulties and tried out the five cars – there’s not much else to do.
