[Wii] Nintendo in talks with GTA publisher, promises M-rated content on Wii
Thursday, 21 September 2006
As if Sega working with Nintendo wasn't enough of a culture-shock, recent news suggests we may be seeing Rockstar and Nintendo together at last, with the possibility of Wii GTA titles.
"We're reaching out to every publisher, frankly every day. I'll be spending some time later today with the folks over at Take Two who own Rockstar to see what type of support they can give our console," Nintendo of America's president, Reggie Fils-Aime, told MTV. "The fact is there will be M-rated content on the Wii console. EA has already announced that they're bringing 'The Godfather' to our console. And we want every single best-selling game to be available on Wii. Whatever that content is."
Of course, Nintendo consoles haven't flinched from the rough stuff as much as some people think - the GameCube featured two of the most decidedly mature titles of last generation in Resident Evil 4 and Killer 7 - although the company has very publicly drawn the line at GTA in the past. But now it seems ready to cross it - old-timers will remember that Rockstar actually got a leg-up on GTA's free-roaming style with Body Harvest on N64, so a Wii-TA could be a homecoming of sorts.
