Grand Theft Auto trilogy set for a re-release on Mac. PS3 and 360 too, please Rockstar?

Remember a littleseries of games known as the Grand Theft Auto trilogy? That rather beautiful set of discs released last generation for the Xbox, PS2 and PC? Remember how itprovided us with the delights of GTAs III, Vice City and San Andreas? Well now it's getting a re-release. On Mac. Cue jubilant air-punches of delayed vindication for Apple fans, but sad faces for 360 and PS3 owners.

As far as we know so far, anyway...

Revealed this morning onRockstar's Facebook page, the Mac versions of the first three 3D GTA gamesare currently pencilled in for "most likely later this year". Word is a little vague over whether the games will be coming separately or via the previously released box-set, but after this long our guess would be the latter, with a Steam release also possible given that Valve's distribution service is now available to all lovers of minimalist white hardware design.

So, the big question now is, is thisannouncement down to Rockstar simply embracing the Mac's current gaming boost, or is it part of a wider re-release? Sadly, we don't yet know. There has been no word at allof a similar treatment for 360 or PS3 (though San Andreas is already on the 360 via the Xbox Originals download service, and of course, those lucky enough to own both an old 60Gb PS3-fat and the original PS2 discscan still run those), and so far we haven't been able to get any confirmation one way or the other from Rockstar. We will of course let you know should we hear anything.

But what do you reckon? Would you lap up a re-release of the original three games on HD console if it appeared? Or are you more than happy with Rockstar's more current line-up?
