Gran Turismo Sport puts an F1 World Champion in your passenger seat

The Gran Turismo series has always been the number one choice for the kind of hardcore racing fan that can identify a car from the sound of its exhaust alone. Now it's building on that reputation, adding F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton to Gran Turismo Sport as a driving mentor.

"I have been playing Gran Turismo since I was a child, so to actually be part of the gameplay design has been an incredible experience," says Hamilton.

What does that mean? From the video above, it looks as though the racer contributed feedback on driving styles, and Polyphony promises we'll get access to "his driving philosophy, techniques, and his way of life through driving images and interviews for the players of Gran Turismo Sport." It might not make you any better at three-point turns in real life, but it'll certainly add a little celebrity glamor to all the talk of oversteer and gear changes.

"From watching Lewis drive on TV all these years, I had an idea of how he might drive, but the experience of watching him drive in person was well beyond my wildest expectations," adds Gran Turismo series producer Kazunori Yamauchi.

The game will be the first entry in the iconic series for PlayStation 4 and will be released on October 17. A special virtual reality mode will be available for PSVR owners, and all of the 177 cars in the game can be driven in VR.
