Gotham City Impostors Gamescom trailer shows you how to customize your Bat-knock-off

One of the core rules of the Batman mythos is that he never uses a gun. Batarangs, grappling hooks, knockout gas, and strategic, non-lethal explosives are all fine, but for basically all of the Caped Crusader’s career he’s avoided using bullets of any kind. So how do you fit a firearm-averse hero into a first-person shooter, the most popular and therefore best genre in gaming? By replacing him with goofball wannabes that don’t have Bats’ strong moral fiber, which is what Gotham City Impostors is all about. This most recent trailer offers a closer look at how you can customize your vigilante to your heart’s content.

Unlike the dark tone set by the Arkham games and Christian Bale’s films, Impostors goes in the opposite direction, with manic fun filling up a more colorful world. That stage in the video even takes place in the daylight, something you never see in a standard Batman adventure (hardcore Bat-fans will notice the famous Monarch Theatre, where a young Bruce saw his final film with his parents). The characters in the trailer are definitely of the hockey pads-wearing variety, but after years of serious (and seriously great) Batman, maybe a lighter tone with highly customizable characters in a team-based shooter will be a good palette cleanser. The Monolith-developed downloadable title will have a beta this Septemberand appears on XLBA, PSN and PC next year.
