Last we heard, Brian De Palma was being lined up to direct Paranormal Activity 2 .
But in actuality he was just one name on a very short list made by Paramount, who were sniffing about for a new director after Kevin Geutert was wrenched back to the Saw franchise.
Then yesterday it seemed like Akiva Goldsman, the scriptwriter of many a Hollywood travesty, was the studio’s favourite to direct the project.
ShockTillYouDrop broke the news, which has now been debunked. Despite Goldsman having previously directed episodes of Kings and Fringe , he apparently has no desire to take a stab at the big screen.
Instead, Goldsman will act as executive producer on the flick, alongside the original’s Oren Peli, Jason Blum and Steven Schneider.
But even if Goldsman isn’t directing, we’re still feeling all kinds of antsy about his involvement.
As everybody already knows, Goldsman wrote Batman And Robin way back when, and has yet to live that down. But he’s also provided pretty deplorable screenplays for The Da Vinci Code and Practical Magic , while producing watered-down drivel like Hancock and Poseidon .
According to Deadline , we should expect a director announcement when the film starts production in May.
On the casting front, Micah Sloat has talked about returning for the sequel. Speaking to MTV , he said:
“Well we have money now, but we’re staying true to the heart of the movie, to the spirit of it, to the vision.”
Still holding out for De Palma?
