Woo-hoo! Go sci-fi and fantasy! Okay, it was only four awards, and that's if we claim Spielberg as ours as well, but it's good to see the Joker and little WALL-E getting some respect. The Golden Globe Awards are presented annually by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association to recognise achievement in international movies and TV. It kicks off Hollywood's awards season and many think it's a good indicator of what will later win an Oscar. Here are this year's SF-related prize-winners:

Best Performance by an Actor In A Supporting Role in a Motion Picture
Heath Ledger – The Dark Knight (posthumous)
Director Christopher Nolan accepted the prize on his behalf, and the BBC reported that he said Ledger would be "eternally missed but never forgotten... All of us who worked on The Dark Knight accept with an awful mixture of sadness but incredible pride."
Cecil B DeMille Award

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association established the special Cecil B DeMille Award for outstanding contribution to the world of entertainment in 1952. It's been given to DeMille himself, and such people as Walt Disney, Judy Garland, Alfred Hitchcock, Sidney Poitier and Sean Connery.
These were the 66th Golden Globe Awards, celebrating the finest film and television in 2008, and they were presented yesterday (Sunday 11 January 2009) at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.
